Chairman Han is starting to meet and launch talks with firms that are mainly oriented to the domestic market but also are just engaged in export business. He held a meeting with the CEOs of regional S&M firms at Jisa Science Complex in Busan on 16th of this month, with a view to listening to trade barriers and also discussing possible supporting measures in an attempt to actively strengthen their competencies for export business.

He said, “The topmost issues are how to turn domestically oriented firms to export companies and to strengthen the competencies of export beginners if the country can accomplish the goal of 2 trillion dollars in foreign trade and achieve its sustainable growth.” He also emphasized, “The parts and equipment companies who are engaged in shipbuilding have experienced difficulties in the wake of a long recession in the shipbuilding and maritime industry need to explore overseas markets.” In addition, he added, “The KITA will play an active role in expanding the base for export competence by providing motivations to S&M firms to launch export business and cultivating and supplying trade experts.”

For this purpose, the KITA has recently opened a Trade Academy in Busan following those in Daegu and Gwangju cities in order to provide human resources to the regional S&M firms and also reinforced consultants specializing in overseas marketing in the association. Furthermore, he has sent letters to as many as 33,000 firms that have solely engaged in domestic business, together with a guide book introducing the KITA’s export-supporting programs, to encourage them to start with oversea business.

On the other hand, Mr. Han made tours of production lines at such small but strong companies in this region as E&K (CEO, Park, Yoon-so) and Haeduck Powerway (CEO, Gu, Jae-go) and offered words of encouragement for their passion and endeavors to the directors and employees of these companies that have started from small regional companies and grown into the best companies in the world in terms of market share.
